Obama wants to change the American flag: - Our flag must represent our multicultural society
The star-spangled banner may soon be a thing of the past - at least if Obama gets his way. The president announced this morning that he wants to make changes to the US flag’s design.
The dust from the Mid-Term Elections have settled and it’s back to business at the white house. The results of the elections is by many regarded as a great defeat for the Democratic party, but Obama seems unperturbed by the right-wing winds blowing in the country. Today, he made a very radical suggestion, one that is bound to elicit a flurry of heated reactions, especially from the patriotic right. In a speech given at the White House at noon today, Obama put forth a bill that will see the design of the American flag. - It’s time that America sends the right signals on the international stage. We must show the world that we are nation that values multiculturalism, diversity and tolerance. The American flag as it is today is an outdated heirloom from ancestors who were intolerant and who enslaved people because of the color of their skin. Today’s America is a land for all, white, black, hispanic, jewish, muslim, thus, it is important to be inclusive and make everyone feel welcome. We must unite under one flag, a new flag! The new flag is rumored to feature an Islamic crescent and a star, but it will keep the stripes.
- We realise that this change will be hard for some people. However, these people need to expand their horizons and get used to an America that is constantly progressing, ever changing. I urge all American to welcome this change and see the new flag as an opportunity to be culturally enriched. We are especially proud to announce that an Islamic crescent will adorn the new flag, finally it gets its rightful place in American culture. Islam is a religion of peace.
Using the old flag once the new flag has been made official, will result in a fine.
- Waving the old flag will be seen as an act of racism and will have repercussions. We will invest a great deal in apprehending individuals who break this law.
If the bill gets through, we will start seeing the new flag in March 2016. To discuss this story, tweet under #NewFlag.
