Why Kylie Jenners lip fillers set feminism back a 100 years
Feminist Cassidy Boon weighs in on Kyle Jenner's lip enlargement I can’t believe she decided to, like, do it. I can’t believe she let herself be persuaded in the end. I thought she would be the one who didn’t give into the pressure. I held onto the hope that her lips were just swollen for the longest time, then, last week she confirmed that she had had something done and crushed all my, like, illusions in a single, devastating blow. In case you haven’t guessed it yet, I am talking about Kylie Jenner, arguably the hottest Kardashian family member at the moment. Last week she confirmed the rumours that have floated around for ages about her having her lips enlarged and, in doing so, she lost all her respect from me. I’ve always thought of Kylie as the feminist one in the family – the strong girl who wouldn’t let herself be shaped by patriarchal standards of beauty and who was comfortable with the way she looked without having to change her appearance to live up to sexist, hungry, salivating men’s’ expectations. I mean all the other Kardashians have bought into the chauvinistic male stereotype of how a woman should look since they were teenagers. Kylie on the other hand was a freckled, plain and neutral, yet strong young girl only moments ago – now she has made herself into a fetishized fuckdoll.
I mean I realize that the pressure to be beautiful affects even the most strong, independent feminist women and especially those in the public spotlight. I also know that I can’t be easy to have worm-thin lips in this looks-fixated society, but still, getting fillers to be more attractive to men is not a feminist thing to do. AT ALL. I myself have very full lips and couldn’t in a million years possibly understand what she was going through and the feeling of not being good enough must have been very stressful to her, but had she been the kind of woman I thought she was, she’d have ridden out the storm and focused on being a fierce career woman instead. What Kylie Jenner did in modifying her body is nothing short of disgusting. The second that needle hit her lips she set feminism back at least a 100 years. Kylie Jenner has over 9 million followers on Instagram – that means 9 million little girls are being taught, in like, this instant, that the only way to be a person of value as a woman in this society, is to change your body in accordance to the preferences of horny men. I truly hope Kylie thinks long and hard about what she has done, I mean, she has a responsibility to be a role model for young women and what she is doing now is so anti-feminist that I don’t even know where to start. Because of all this, I’m starting a campaign under the hashtag #KylieLipless. What I mean to say by the hashtag is that Kylie should have stayed the way she was without giving into what everyone else expected of her – THAT would’ve been the feminist thing to do. So tweet under it and let me know if you’re behind me on this.
Oh and Kylie, you're a BITCH.
