Ted Cruz thinks Josh Duggar did nothing wrong and would let him babysit his kids

Friends in high places - Senator Ted Cruz comments the Josh Duggar Scandal

The 19 kids and counting-scandal can scarcely have slipped past any American. The story about Christian family father Josh Duggar molesting 5 children, four of whom were his sisters, in 2002 and 2003 when he was a minor himself, broke last week and has been the talk of nation ever since. With 19 kids and counting cancelled, many fans of the show are outraged and are calling for a renewal, while most are simply aghast at what has happened - but there’s one man who is all but outraged, and that man, is none other than Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz. In a local Texas radio interview this morning, Ted Cruz was asked to comment on several news items, and when the presenter got to the Josh Duggar scandal, this is what he had to say:

Josh is a very close friend of mine and that’s why I am very saddened by this whole scandal. I believe it’s been blown way out of proportion. He was a fourteen year old boy, I mean, who didn’t cop a feel at that age? I know I did and I’m not going to stand here and apologize for the sins of my youth. Boys will be boys! Sure I don’t condone what he did, but I can’t say that I find there’s anything particularly wrong with it and certainly not to the extent that it should have a huge impact on his and his family's life. I would let him babysit my daughter's any day of the week, he is, truly, a harmless man Not surprisingly, the statement has caused quite a stir online with many calling Cruz’s words “despicable” and “disgusting” and labelling him a “rape apologist”. One angry twitter user had this to say: “I can’t believe what I just heard on Texan radio, Ted Cruz defended Josh Duggar and said he did nothing wrong WTFFFF!!”

Ted Cruz is running for presidency in 2016 and perhaps more discretion would have been appropriate. Tammy Wagerfeld, our Liberal commentator, has this to say about Cruz’s statement.

I honestly can’t believe that a senator could say such a thing, it’s beyond belief, this will damage his run for presidency if not his entire political career. An incredibly stupid thing to do. This is going to get huge"

The consequences of Cruz’s radio interview remain to be seen, but be sure to tune in as we will update you as it happens. In the meantime, discuss this article under #CruzNDuggar
