Teen mysteriously dies after doing the Charlie Charlie Challenge
Should have let Charlie be – Missouri teen dies under mysterious circumstances after having played viral game
It’s the latest viral internet game – #CharlieCharlieChallenge has thousands of kids using school supplies for once - The game is simple: draw a grid on a piece of paper with “yes” and “no” in the boxes, balance one pencil on top of another in the shape of a cross, and ask “Charlie, Charlie are you here?”. Then watch as the pencil moves and proceed to scream, etc. Charlie is supposedly a Mexican demon, who, for some reason, obliges to answer every teenager on vine’s questions.
It may seem a much more harmless viral game than Nek-nominating or the #KylieLipJennerChallenge, but it’s reportedly already reaped its first victim. This morning, 911 respondents were dispatched to a Missouri home, after having received a desperate call from a teenager who was claiming that her friend, a 15-year old boy, was “choking on nothing”. Upon arrival, the ambulance crew found the boy already dead, with two friends trying in vain to revive him. The ambulance crew were puzzled, unable to determine the cause of death. When police arrived at the scene and started questioning the two friends, they told a bone-chilling story of having played the Charlie Charlie Challenge, asking the supposed demon “Am I going to die today?” The pen had spun around to land on the “yes” box and only about a minute later, the boy who had asked the question, began sputtering and choking. When his friends tried to perform the Heimlich manoeuvre and manually remove what was blocking the deceased boy’s airway, they were unsuccessful as it appeared that nothing was actually lodged in the boy’s throat. Now obviously, this raises the question as to whether the Charlie Charlie Challenge had anything to do with the boy’s death – and this, is a question that that the remaining teens are convinced they know the answer to. In fact, the two surviving teens were so terrified that Charlie had killed their friend that they had to be taken into custody and taken care of by psychologists.
The boy’s body is scheduled to undergo an autopsy later tonight, but the medical crew that found the boy doubt that they’ll find anything. This is one of the ambulance workers that were first at the scene had to say: - It’s like he had just dropped dead. We found nothing in his throat and I don’t think he had a throat or anything of that nature. It really is scary, I’m not usually a superstitious person, but with what his friends told us…it makes you wonder. The police are now issuing a warning to all teenagers about performing the Charlie Charlie Challenge, but while they’re steering clear of any supernatural elements in the dissuasion, they’re instead focusing on the mass hysteria and erratic behaviour that the game can conjure up in people. We will update you with the results of the autopsy, in the meantime, discuss this death under the hashtag
