Shark attack reported in Hudson River, New York

A monster beneath the surface – a 27 year old man has been ripped to pieces by large shark after having fallen into the Hudson river.

At 8:30 am this morning, local time, reports broke of a shark attack in the Hudson River. According to witness reports, a 27-year old man who was out fishing on the Manhattan river with his father and two cousins, fell into the water after a playful game of tug of war and never returned, ripped to pieces by what the man’s father describes as a “Great White Shark”.

Paramedics and divers recovered the remains of the 27-year old submerged near the boat and were able to confirm that the cause of death was indeed a shark attack after examining the idiosyncratic bite-marks that were all over the flesh.

The last few years has seen a rapid increase in the Shark population of the Hudson river, seeing as the water has become increasingly cleaner, but this is the first Shark attack in over 150 years to have occurred in the Hudson.

Bill de Blasio, the Mayor of New York city, has already made a statement about this vicious animal attack. This is what he had to say:

- Hearing of these news is deeply harrowing and, frankly, unbelievable. The downside to cleaner water is that dangerous wildlife such as sharks thrive. I would advise all New Yorkers to stay out the water, at least for the foreseeable future, and report any shark sightings to the authorities. My heart goes out to the family of the man killed today.

New York marine biologist Hugh Myrone Gaines had this to say about the recent attack

- I am deeply saddened by this attack but I am afraid it is not the last. The shark population in the Hudson has increason tenfold in the past 5 years and the sharks are hungry, very hungry, due to the slow metabolism caused in the cold water. I advise everyone to keep out of the Hudson river.
