Drake officially changes his name to Degra$$i Boy

The rap game has changed forever - Drake changes his name to Degra$$i Boy as an homage to his TV roots

Canadian rapper Drake is about as big as you can get, it seems whatever he touches turns into platinum. But it hasn't always been like this, and now, the 28-year old is determined to show the world that he truly started from the bottom - and what better way to do that than to change his artist name to something evocative of his humble beginnings. In a press release earlier this afternoon, Drake explained that he will officially be changing his artist name to "Degra$$i Boy". The name refers to the popular Canadian teen TV drama in which Drake starred from 2001-2009 before he blew up and became a Hip Hop icon. This is what Drake, now Degra$$i Boy had to say in the press release:

"You know as an artist I am constantly looking to renew myself. I have been Drake for a long time now and sometimes I think I'm being blinded by the success to the extent that I forget where I came from you know. It's not often that I stop to deal with myself and talk to that boy who was on Degrassi way back and doing this is a way for me to get back to my roots. I hereby go by the name Degra$$i Boy and that's what I want y'all to call me from now on - it'll be the name on your concert tickets, the name on the albums and the name on your Spotify. Drake is over, I love him, but he's gone, Degra$$i Boy is where it's at from now on. I am putting dollar signs in there though because, I'm rich and all." The news has stirred quite a reaction online, with many criticizing the star's swift change of identity not being fair to his fans, but others are lauding him.
